Compact Digital Cameras

I'm looking to buy a digital camera and I have no idea what make or model to buy.

I'm looking in the 12-15 megapixel range that takes decent images and has image stabilisation.

Anything else is a bonus.

Suggestions fellow CG'ers?

I'd also look for something that does not take 10 seconds to take the pic. I've seen a few cameras the seem to take forever to get the pic right before taking it and by then the person in frame has moved on!!

Oops, sorry. Should have mentioned looking for a compact, so most likely a quickshot.

I have had training with SLR's, but many many many many years ago, so I wouldn't feel comfortable with an SLR.
