Re: Show Notes for 2010-04-18
Gareth David-Lloyd - Kerry asked him what John Barrowman was like as a person; he answered: "Gay... very gay, camp, but nice to work with."
Supanova - I know why they chose the venue, but I still stand by the fact that air-conditioning can avert geek-reek. I enjoyed working a table there, although I did here several attendees complaining about the security being overbearing. I thought there were enough vendors there; however, they were all the same faces and the stock offered little new or original. I have not heard peoples opinions on the talks yet.
Scott's GL ring - Shiny! Uber-fan
Doctor Who Club of Victoria - I do not usually end my sentences with the Australian higher-pitched inflection. Hearing this surprised me. I did forget to mention our magazine and Michael will thump me for doing so, but I will catch up here by mentioning it comes out six times a year with a bonus A5 original fan comic. Take a look at the DWCV Magazine .pdf.
Iron Man 2 - Bring it on. I re-watched the first one a few months ago and it stood up proudly to a second viewing; I hope the sequel does too. I never read the comics, so I know nothing of what could and will be coming. Its all new to me!
First Contact Conventions - Will go on record as saying they are my favourite convention organisers. They select the best combination of guests and run a tight, one-day convention with a standard set off offerings so you know exactly what you will be getting and how much it all will set you back.
Gifts For The Geek - They take all your money, and you will never regret it. I have never heard a bad word spoken against them or their merchandise.
Doctor Who Premiere - It would be strange having something of that level in Australia. Before you mentioned it to me, it never occurred they would think to do a launch over here. Over twenty people I talked to at the convention, who were Doctor Who fans, had NO IDEA that that ABC were screening a new series starting from that Sunday. Talk of stealth marketing. These people apparently were searching the papers (not the net) trying to find news of an airing. Without our club, they would have not known and missed the screening.
Star Walking - Great meetings, especially suited for families. Their content offers something for everyone and their auctions always contain something tempting. They have a good kitchen too, second only to the MSFC. I never go hungry at either of those meetings. It is a shame they only meet every second month, though I guess that is how they keep up the quality of the meetings.
The Dark Lurking - I tend to avoid Australian films as they just depress me. Do not get me wrong, usually the quality of script and acting far surpass Hollywood, they are just so gosh darn depressing and bleak - the whole way through. [/generalisation]
Austrek - I enjoy standing at the back of their meetings, watching Scotty work the members and seeing everyone interact. The AV quality recently does seem top-notch too. I am usually too-late for their hot dogs, which is a shame (or not, considering my stomach).

If anyone wants to get a GL ring (or any other as they do some great superhero rings) check out this website.
www.arrobasilver.com
The rings are about $54 to $59 USD and they have a great range.

Loved the OB version of the show, enjoyed hearing the voices of most people on the forum and was kind of impressed at peoples ability to natter when faced with a microphone, Myself, I would have been all Ummm Ahhhh,,, oooo let me think...
And then about 5 minutes later, a whole interesting monologue would have appeard in my minds eyes...
Love your work.

Personal nitpick for both Darren and Xombiekitty, it's JOSS Whedon not JOSH Whedon.

On another podcast, one of the guys deliberately says JOSH just to infurite the fanboys.

They both did say Joss (I know, I was there. I'm usually a nit-picker about the point as well). Without a soundproofed studio to record in, and REALLY high quality headphones to listen to it on, anybody is going to sound like they're mispronouncing his name.
I think I'm going to have to ban discussion of Mr. Whedon's first name on the show ... trying to process the audio so that it sounds correct is a freaking nightmare. It just NEVER sounds right - i spent 20 minutes on this segment alone, with little success, before I eventually gave up. I'll have to interview the guy himself just to see what it sounds like when he says his own name.

When Xombiekitty first mentions to Darren that Joss maybe writing she says Joss. After Darren refers to him as Josh (repeatedly) Xombiekitty also changes to Josh. If she was consistent I might give the audio excuse some credence, but it's a noticeable change after Darren calls him Josh. Maybe she was just being polite to him?
