I'll be interested to hear what you think of Henry Rollins, seen him a few times and found it takes a couple of years between gigs to get new material. Well that was my experience, but interested to hear if he has a new sthick Smile

I finally managed to listed to the podcast after work which managed to be a stressful day thanks to the cool room failing over the weekend and an invasion straight from a 1950's horror film - best not to ask... ;-)

I am glad to hear someone fighting against inappropriate use of 3D. The experience can be unparalleled when filmed specifically for the format; and yet, post production conversion can ruin a film. You are right about the extra three dollars on a ticket meaning more that an objective decision on what cinematic technique would best suit a film.

As for Iron Man, I generally do not read comics due to time and money. When I do, it tends to be a quality limited-run reprint rather than issue-by-issue. As a result, I tend not to have read much Marvel or DC staples. I went to see Iron Man not expecting much and fell in love with it, so I cannot wait for the sequel. Even news of a third gets me excited. Quite unusual for me, but not being familiar with the original source material means all this is new as far as I am concerned and the story could go anywhere. :-)

I thought an invasion of maggots at work today would top the weirdness quotient of my month, no challenge; however, I think you guys topped it by unleashing this Weird Al "trailer". Great cast, loved Gary Cole unbuttoning that jacket at the end. Fried Gold.

Its nice hearing we shall have some consistency with Karen Gillian staying on for a second season. Donna's character was superbly created to be unpopular with her first appearance, only to return a year later to much online animosity. By the end of the year, we all cried when she left.

I am looking forwards to the legally distinguishable elements of K-9, although the air-date should actually be this Saturday on Ten at 9:30 am (see reference link below)

I quite enjoy Big Bang Theory, although I have not watched it for years as I no longer watch television. I plan to buy the DVDs one day to catch up on them. I am actually glad that Sheldon apparently gets the girl as all shows need to take risks to avoid becoming stale. Also, the quality of the writing, which I am glad to hear still is high, should make this work.

Nintendo 3DS does sounds interesting, although I no longer play hand held games (iPhone occasionally permitted). Not sure how kind this would be on your eyes as glasses-free 3D does tend to hurt the eyes if not angled right. MAkes you wonder why Nintendo does not re-launch the Virtual Boy ;-)

GameCrush - Sorry but that just sounds so depressing. I feel bad for the people who apparently have a need for this. I am not sure the point, however. Does it matter if you are playing against a bloke or a lady? I am not a gamer, so maybe I just do not get it.

Aww shucks, thanks for the name and shame. :-) All the clubs you mention offer a safe haven for people of geeky tendencies; a place where we can talk to like-minded nerds who can actually understand and relate to us as fans. Its refreshing and I am glad to be able to share something with the clubs.

Thanks again for the feature-length instalment of Chaotic Geek and I hope to catch you guys in the real world soon!

Ian.

Well you asked what I thought about the Transformers movies and here it is: The 1st movie was ground-breaking,we got to see live action versions of characters that we love. The story was good but not epic. Alot of plot holes,AND THEY KILLED JAZZ! Now onto ROTF, *headdesk* it was a good movie but not a great movie,no plot,no followable story but it was good in a way.

Re: Iron Man - I'll have to tag-team with Scotty this weekend - we'll make a convert of you Smile
Re: Weird Al: The funniest thing is that I've now met him twice, and he was the nicest guy you've ever met, and even though he was obviously out of his mind tired, he hung around until every fan had their couple of minutes, a photo or eight and an autograph.
re: Naming and shaming: I know exactly what you mean. If you've seen me at Austrek or one of Scotty's events, you'd be surprised to find out that I HATE being center of attention or speaking in front of large groups - but these are what I consider my people, so I actually enjoy it.

Lets just not talk about Devastator

I'm hoping for more of Characters like Sideswipe and Sunstreaker and Blaster and Perceptor ... but most of all Cliffjumper, Blurr and Wheelie (not the fake Wheelie remote controlled car guy)

I have seen the first episode of K9, and as long as you remember that it is very much a kids show, it is quite enjoyable.
There was a few times that I got a good laugh from one of K9's lines. You do get to see the original K9 for a few seconds before he regenerates. I don't like the new look of K9, and I'm not so sure about him flying, but at least they got John Leeson to do the voice.

Piece of Trivia for you Chris, Erin Grey is now Morena Baccarin's agent.

Also I haven't heard Karen Gillan has been confirmed for a second series of Doctor Who. Matt Smith has but nothing confirming Karen yet (and your link doesn't provide any confirmation either).

Google is actually quite against the use of "Google" as a verb. They've tried to get it removed from the dictionary updates but Oxford say they put in what's in use, they're not there to police word usage.

Comics: I think the last comic I read regularly was Excalibur up until about '93 or so. Haven't bothered with monthly comics since then though I've bought single volume editions of things like Watchmen, V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

And Chris - This is for you

The link provides the follow information with the Karen bit bolded & coloured for you because you're obviously concerned about her fate

The BBC will enter production on a second series of Doctor Who with new actors Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in July, the show’s executive
producers have confirmed.

Google had no way to stop the use of google as a verb because Larry Page coined it himself in 1998. It is generally differentiated by having a uppercase G for the company and a lowercase g for the verb.

Guys, you missed an abvious contender for one of the sci-fi related
shows at the Comedy Festival (unless you mentioned it in the previous one and I missed it): Robot Versus World http://www.comedyfestival.com.au/2010/season/shows/robot-vs-world

I saw it at last year's Fringe Festival. Astro Boy, G1 Optimus Prime, and a Dalek run a private detective agency, investigating what is happening to their steadily vanishing contemporaries.

I don't think we've mentioned any of the geeky MICF shows by name.
I know in this weekend's show we mention that there are several this year and that Tripod are one of them, but still not by name (I know, very slack of us).

Thanks for providing the link though!

Next year I think we will try to see more of the geeky options as I really think we're missing out. I've loved the shows we've seen so far, and we still have Henry Rollins coming up, but next year I may spend time picking out the really geeky shows to see

Have you seen any yourself this year?

Not seen any yet - I just got back from England and Japan on Sunday. I can highly recommend: Robot Vs World; +1 Sword (A D&D-based show), having seen them at last year's Fringe Festival; and Tripod Versus the Dragon, having seen the preview version late last year.

Other shows I think will not disappoint are: Jabba's Comedy Hutt by The Hounds, a trio who have been doing exceptionally fine shows for about 4 years now; Dungeon Crawl (another D&D based show), done by the same guys who are doing +1 Sword; and Saturday Night at the Library, by Andy Muirhead - the host of The Collectors on ABC1.
